Help Build the Power of the Human Spirit on Your Team with Mike Shoreman
All of our speakers do an amazing job, but each one brings their own personal reflection to the Human Connection mantra. Mike Shoreman was faced with a significant setback that could have sent his life into a dark place, but he found resilience through inspiring others and creating awareness of the power of the human spirit. Today on the blog, we’d like to go over a few ways that he can transform the minds of your team, audience, or group.
Mike’s Setback
In just 2018, Mike was living his life happily as a nationally recognized paddleboard coach. It was his passion and commitment to himself and others. He would be diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which many people probably don’t know much about. When you’re told you have a disease, you’re faced with a new title, identity, and persona.
He was forced to face his challenge head-on, dealing with significant physical setbacks, including loss of mobility, hearing, and vision. He faced facial nerve collapse and vertigo, which all ultimately led to him being forced into a mental health crisis. But Mike didn’t let his new definition define him in a negative, dark, or weak light. He found strength in inspiring others and continuing to do what he does best, eventually becoming the first disabled person to paddleboard across ALL FIVE GREAT LAKES!
Mike’s Approach to Speaking
Mike is widely respected for the way he has overcome his diagnosis, but he’s also renowned for being an incredibly powerful speaker. He connects with his audience through sharing his captivating story and his reflections on some of the hardest moments of his life. He has a unique storytelling ability, demonstrated through his writing of his bestselling book, Diaries of The Unbalanced Paddleboarder: Crash and RISE: From Victim to Thriving Survivor.
His journey of resilience and transformation can help anyone to see they have more in the tank than they might believe. His practical strategies can help individuals to overcome adversity in their life, find internal motivation, and transform themselves into a better version of themselves, personally and professionally. You don’t get to meet people with a story like Mike’s often, and that’s why he has proven to be such a unique guest for so many people in so many different industries.
