Meet Meagan

Outed as gay by a college ex-boyfriend, rejected by family and mentors, and told it was no longer safe for her, Meagan O’Nan left small-town Mississippi and went on a 6 year journey only to return home and face her community head on.

Today, Meagan is an award-winning speaker and author on belonging, inclusion, and human connection, who believes that we can bridge divides by confronting fears, embracing vulnerability, and cultivating inner courage. Her talk at TEDxBelltown Women on “What To Do When You Disagree With People You Love,” is forthcoming. 

Meagan has authored three books: Creating Your Heaven on Earth, Courage: Agreeing to Disagree Is Not Enough, and Held and Free. Meagan has worked with numerous organizations including Inspire Brands, Toyota, Red Cross National, and Forbes. She received personal recognition from Desmond Tutu for a talk on forgiveness, and has been featured on Forbes, NPR, Advocate, Yahoo!, Fox 13 Seattle, The Social.

Meagan imagines a world where we can still stay close to people in spite of our disagreements. 

She lives in Starkville, Mississippi, with her wife Clare, daughter Merit, and their pets.
